N'Shoma
Sundays, 11-noon
N'shoma is
Hebrew for "Spirit", and you'll find lots of spirit when you
tune in every Sunday! Your host, Middletown native Richard
Kamins, brings you an eclectic mix of music from around the Jewish
world, including Klezmer music, Broadway tunes, eastern European
folk music, Israeli music, jazz, and much American creative Jewish
music (can't imagine what that would be? You'll have to tune in
to find out!) Richard has even been known to play Jewish
versions of Christmas Carols! He includes interviews with musical
artists, community news updates, provides lots of music
background information, and he hosts special shows to commemorate
important events such as Kristalnacht and the Holocaust Memorial
week. N'shoma strives to highlight the width and breadth
of the Jewish experience.
For 30
years, Richard owned the Bottle Shop, a wine and spirits store
in Middletown and finally retired his cork screw at the end of
2005 (well, he still likes a glass of wine, he's just not doing
wine tastings anymore). He writes
a weekly arts preview column for The Hartford Courant ("SEE!
HEAR!) and has an active blog on the newspaper's website (http://blogs.courant.com/richard_kamins/).
He serves on the Middletown Commission on the Arts as well as
the Middletown Foundation for the Arts and is a member of The
Vintage Players, a Middletown-based theater company.
N'Shoma is now in its 11th year and going strong."
