Lisa
Sattler-Biesak
Born in Yonkers, NY, to a loving and supportive family--which included four older brothers--sometime in the 60's, Lisa was raised in a small community in Yonkers, called Crestwood. There she went to 12 years of parochial school! Fortunately, she got a taste of the real world at her family's summer home off the south shore of Long Island. It is here that Lisa has her fondest and most diverse childhood memories. Soon after receiving her degree in business from Bryant University in Rhode Island in the early 1980's, she began pounding the pavement of Manhattan for her first real job. The job market was tight and she ended up landing her first job in Rye, NY at a corporate conference center. A few years later, Lisa married her husband, John and relocated to Central Connecticut—and has been here ever since! |

Lisa spent the rest of the eighties working for a large insurance company in Connecticut and quickly moved up the corporate ladder; where she eventually managed over 100 employees. Once her first son was born, her priorities began to change and just before delivering her second son, decided to raise her family full time. During her first years at home with her boys, Lisa, (sort of a city girl) found it difficult at first to make ties to her rural community. Slowly, she began to find the companionship she needed. On a fateful day in September 1992, her husband stumbled upon a guy in town that was doing Saturday morning chores with 2 boys in tow! It was obvious that they had a lot in common and when they met again at The Durham Fair, they decided that their wives should definitely meet! When "Lisa met Sally" is a long story, but suffice it to say that on a desperate fall morning after dropping her older son off at nursery school, Lisa put on her brave face and even though uninvited…she knocked on Sally's door! Without delay, (well…maybe a little) Sally generously invited her in and they just started talking—Lisa recalls that there was an immediate connection! |

It wasn't until a few months later in June of 1993, that they really connected and shared a quiet walk down the beach in Madison and realized how much they had in common! Lots of brothers, loss of their fathers at young ages, their kids, values and the love of the ocean just to name a few! Lisa and Sally's friendship developed and the rest is, in fact, even a longer story! Shortly after this famed stroll, Lisa discovered she was pregnant with her third child. In January, 1994 Lisa and John were thrilled when they had a little girl to join the family! While raising her young family, Lisa dabbled in assorted careers that would suit her family's schedule. But she was constantly coming up with other more creative ways to make a buck! Meanwhile, her friendship with Sally was blossoming and together in the late 1990’s, they hatched the idea to share their daily conversations with the world--on the radiowaves! And now, they are co-hosting their show, laughing, learning together and defining the world for themselves and others. What fun! "Defining Women" debuted at WMRD in Middletown and WLIS in Old Saybrook in August 2001. Sally and Lisa have been having a ball ever since developing a program that features unscripted conversations about everyday life! The program offers something much different than most—it is civilized, fun, informative and flirty all at the same time. Typically, the topics are easy for everyone to relate to…(yes-- that means men too!) Everything from important issues like domestic violence to the sillier side—like kamikaze squirrels, sexy herbs and the newest men’s grooming products are discussed…add updates on local events and people and you’ve got "Defining Women with Lisa and Sally!" Currently Lisa complements her work on the radio with her own freelance marketing company, eLLe Resources. She offers services in marketing, media, business writing and personal and professional image management. Her most recent project includes producing the “Unique Lives and Experiences” lecture series at The Bushnell. She also is working on a long-term project at a Public Relations agency where she coordinates media tours for consumer products and book authors. "I feel very lucky to have been surrounded by amazing women throughout my life. Though I never had the blessing of a sister, I have always had the friendship and support of a great woman during every stage of my life.” she says. “Finding Sally when I did was a real gift…She is the most grounded, instinctively wise woman I know. She is so funny and has taught me so many things! Raising my family with her around the corner was like winning the lottery!" And now, Lisa is honored to be working with this remarkable woman and friend! They are confident that the "Defining Women" have a bright future ahead. As their friendship and their radio show evolves, they are certain of one thing…they were meant to be on this journey together! Join the fun every Monday LIVE at 12:30pm and again at 6:30 on WLIS 1420 AM and WMRD 1150AM! |
